After a sure-shot Shaptami style plan which we told you here, make sure you are ready to make onlookers astounded with your Ashtami look. On this day, generally it gets started with recitals of Sanskrit hymns in community puja pandals as thousands of devotees offers anjali to the goddess Durga. Kumari Puja or the worship of little girls as the mother goddess is also a special part of the rituals observed in a number of traditional and household pujas. As the day goes by, the important Sandhi Puja sets in. So its obvious that the festival of Durga Puja lets the fun and fervor continue for all day long and throughout the week. It certainly gets more intense during the Ashtami and this post today is all about this ash-tonishing Ashtami look.

If you have read my style story on the Shaptami look earlier, you have noticed that the festive fashion tone started with a flamboyant yellow for Shaptami. But for Ashtami, the attire and the attitude will indeed mellow a bit. If there are more than one days to a festival, why would you get stuck with one style? So on Ashtami, I have put on a natural, gold and hot pink handwoven saree in Garad silk base with golden and hot pink geometric pattern around the hem and pallu. This Raw Mango saree came with no blouse which is a blessing in disguise. The creator in me could play with the festive mood and thus, designed this fuchsia pink Benarasi brocade blouse that rounded out this look so well. With my hair in a large bun adorned and covered with fresh jasmine flowers, I finished out the look with a gold Uji bucket pouch and earrings, a ring and a statement bangle, all from Amrapali Jewels.

Every Bengali woman would have at least one red border (lal paar) saree in her wardrobe; the quintessential white saree with a red border that they save up for Puja festivals and Bengali new year’s day celebrations. Much on the same lines of its cousin, this Garad silk saree, but with fuchsia border which is a vivid purplish red color is my choice for Ashtami Puja for the obvious reason.

Shot elegantly in the pristine locations of the Italian Gardens in the Hyde Park in London , the look displays an amalgamation of tradition and youthful exuberance. Fun and frolic still continue on Ashtami, but a subtle change took place here from what we saw earlier in the vibrant Shaptami look especially in respect of grace and gravity. That is what defined this Ashtami attire for this Durga Puja.
