My fashionistas, do you belong to the group who celebrates Valentine’s day or would you simply call it happy unimaginative, consumerist-oriented and entirely arbitrary, manipulative and shallow interpretation of romance day? Honestly, I kind of get a ”I have been there, done that” feeling if you are latter, I used to find celebrating Valentine’s day very shallow, but then with time, I see no harm dedicating one extra day just for LOVE after all that is what this world is lacking.

It’s been a working Valentine’s day for me. Instead of romancing around in a red maxi dress, I had actually helped my employer making more money all day;) Besides, I have been feeling a bit under the weather and why not! If I have to quote the Weatherman, it goes like this- ”While the most persistent rain will have cleared northeast into the evening, rain will turn more showery overnight, with blustery showers perhaps bearing hail and thunder. It will remain very windy, with gales widely and severe gales near the coast”. What plans can you think of making in such dreary weather? Although I had a pleasant surprise on the eve of V-day by none other than my partner but we planned to carry it forward by having a quiet stay-in night instead of going-out and decided to have some fun when there Mr. Sun is out on Sunday.

Everyone buys gifts, my partner did too. What is unique about the way my partner surprised me on this Valentine’s Day is he had selected 3 of the emails exchanged in the last 15 years (I know for this long), printed and included in the gift package. One written in 2000-during our courtship days, one written in 2004-the big deciding moments of our individual careers and one in 2005-when he was doing MBA in London and I was studying my post-graduate in Delhi (We actually didn’t see each other for 2 long years and maintained long-distance relationship only through weekly phone calls and emails and Yahoo messenger chats). Reading those old emails in print was one of the unique things we did together on the eve of Valentine’s Day-provided a window into the past…revealing what we miss, how things used to be!

Wish you all a very happy Valentine’s Day!
