My fashionistas, London is shining bright in the Summer glow this week. Finally! An ideal time to share this look that I tried in my last trip to Vegas. As I try opting for differing looks for each day when on holidays or otherwise, this pencil skirt + crop top look making it a case of the lady and the vamp with choosing the ladylike elegance in a Pencil Skirt and with the double-bow-at-the-back crop-top sporting a sexy rock chick ensemble.
Featuring a daring cutaway panel at the back, this vibrant multi-colored top from H&M was my love at first sight. Literally. You know I love colors, don’t you? I have teamed with a green high-waisted pencil skirt with black leather waist-band from Dorothy Perkins and black suede leather metallic hold-on ankle heel sandals, which is your go-to shoe in warmer weather. I have completed this ‘’holiday=all day party’’ look with a Carmine red leather clutch bag and wore my hair side-swept up into a stylish messy bun, while injecting a further pop of colour with a slick of red lipstick by Illamasqua.
Turning around to flash my pert posterior towards my beautographer as I wandered in the Strip of Las Vegas, I tried to display the striking back detail of the top and the impact a statement matt golden ear ring has to my ladylike pencil skirt.
I love a pencil skirt. Invariably tight, cinched in at the waist and falling just below the knee, More because they can be worn with camisoles, leotards, plain white tees, oversized coats and of course with the biggest trend of the season- crop tops. An elegant piece of pencil skirt can be an alternative to your cocktail dress if worn with the right crop-top. This pencil skirt has started to venture into the wardrobes of celebrities hugely. From Kim Kardashian to Beyoncé to Miranda Kerr to Rita Ora to Priyanka Chopra to Deepika Padukone and Naya Rivera, aka the scary cheerleader off Glee;) The proof that celebrities are totally into this trend is when you spot them copying each other’s outfit or wearing the same look at various places and for different occasions. And why wouldn’t they adopt this trend? Pencil skirts have long been shorthand for “sexy” – as exemplified by Marilyn Monroe wiggling down the train platform in Some Like It Hot.
If you are in possession of va-va-voom curves that look best in figure-hugging shapes – wear a pencil skirt with a crop top. Whether in trend or not, pencil skirts will always keep you on the fashion forefront. Teaming a pencil skirt with a crop top brings you back into the fashion parade, let me assure you. I firmly believe that pure sex appeal sometimes trumps catwalk trend. Style-wise, this is one of those seasons!
