I’ve been let loose with the bank card again!
I had been having the urge to splurge on a few make-up and skin-care products available only in Sephora (It’s high time we should have a Sephora in London ) and a few other brands based out of USA. There are a couple UK based sites online who retail some of those products I was eyeing on but they are the best-selling ones, obviously out of stock, for long. So, earlier this month (October) when the Beautographer made his 3rd work trip to USA this year, I had succumb to that ever-so-present fashion blogger itch and treated myself to the long-desiring must-have bits and bobs! In this post, I’m going to share only the new beauty products by Anastasia Beverly Hills I’ve managed to accumulate from USA (Sephora and Macy’s) and in another post, I’ll share the other make-up, beauty and skin-care products (shopped in USA and here in London) I have added to my dressing table over the course of October up till today.
Most of these products are best-selling ones and belong to exclusive brands and are found in Sephora and Macy’s in USA (I think they are in Canada as well). You can also shop them online. Sephora ships to the UK with a minimum charge of £6.00, oh heck, very limited stock online! Macy’s doesn’t ship make-up items to the UK, yet.
I prepared a list of products I needed to try on and handed it over to the beautographer before he flew off to USA who then went to the Sephora store at Miracle Mile and Hotel Venetian in Las Vegas (why don’t I get to attend a conference in Vegas, eh!?) I’ve found that Sephora doesn’t stock the liquid lipsticks by Anastasia Beverly Hills, Macy’s do, so he had to go to the one in Fashion Show Mall! I’ve included the prices of everything in US Dollars.
There are two US based make-up brands that I just couldn’t help but throw my money at this time- Anastasia Beverly Hills and Becca Cosmetics. Roll the two together, add a few more hero products from Sephora’s own skin-care collection, and let’s not forget Boscia, and you have a Sephora and Macy’s haul. I will share the rest in the next post.
I have seen tons of contouring palettes over the last couple years and literally made faces looking at those contouring tutorials on youtube. Let’s be honest, most of them over-do it. If you want to change the shape of your face entirely, there is something not right about it. I believe in make-up that make you look like YOU! Caked-up contouring and strobing techniques have made me sceptic but hey! I have to say Anastasia Beverly Hills have pulled out all the stops with this contour palette. There really is a contour and highlight shade for every single person out there.
The original contour kit has been around for a while and consists of six shades. Three highlighters and three shading colours. This palette comes with these colours inside and the palette is magnetic so you can swap the colours around.
I got the Light to Medium shade in powder based formula as I get oily in the t-zone. The colors are called (from left to right, top to bottom: Vanilla, Banana, Sand, Java, Fawn and Havana). You can use all of them. I use the shade Banana and Havana to highlight and contour (in that order) the cheek, Sand to highlight the brow bone, centre of the forehead, cupid’s bow and Java to contour the side of the nose. The darker shades (bottom row) can also be used as eye shadow. A total value for money, I reckon.
For the record, I don’t do my eyebrows, I have never made them going through any changes. They are naturally arched, almost no excess or unwanted hairs off the natural line, so never felt the need to do anything with them. However, all hair- whether on the head, brows or eyelashes, as it grows upwards the old hair will be shed naturally or may be pulled out. It grows back depending how healthy your lifestyle is! Even then, I felt the need to fill up a couple gaps especially when I wear a dramatic, heavily kohled eye make-up to balance it out. This brow wiz is definitely something to try out if you are 1) like me, who don’t need much work on the brows anyways and 2) if you want to play it safe with drawing/filling in your eyebrows.
This particular shade I chose for myself is called Ebony, is actually great for most people with dark brown or natural black hair because it doesn’t have strong red undertones which most brown coloured eyebrow pencils do. It leans more towards an ashy brown (more visible in person). How could I color-match without trying them on? Well, like everything else, I did my research on this too and figured out Ebony is my right color-match.
They are so good that I had to get one extra to stock incase they run out fast.
Anastasia Beverly Hills’s Instagram account have lured me into buying this. And why not? They come in ALL possible shades. This ultra-saturated liquid formula delivers an intense shot of matte pigment in one easy swipe. Although I’m not a big fan of matte lipsticks, I prefer a healthy moisturised looking lips anyday over a pair of lips wearing matte lipstick looking like a dead person. In fact, Matte lipsticks must thank Kylie Jenner for this trend and I’m glad they are au courant as what better excuse to try on possibly the best liquid lipsticks of our time- these Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks. A single application gives you smear-resistant coverage that stays put for hours. My top tip is to layer them over your normal lipstick or wear over lips filled in with lip liner to get the best finish.
Both good and bad news are that the shades are hot-sellers, I wanted them in 4 different shades, only two were available and once checked with the store manager, he had shown the beautographer in their system that none of the nearby cities were having them in stock. Damn! So, out of the four I chose, only the shade Party Pink and Neon Coral have managed to land in my lap.
PARTY PINK is a rich almost neon pink with blue undertones. You can see me wearing them here.
NEON CORAL is a true bright neon coral (much more of a true orange). You will be seeing me wearing it in my Diwali look soon.
So that about wraps up the first post of October Haul! I knew it’s going to be an awfully lengthy one, so breaking them into parts. It will be worth waiting, I promise! Did I pick up anything that you’ve had your eye on?
Stay tuned, stay stunned!0
