We arrived during the wee hours in the otherwise crazy and chaotic city of Cairo in Egypt. We made our way from the airport to the hotel situated in Giza through the sleepy neighbourhoods of the capital which was certainly abuzz with nocturnal commuters.
After a warm reception and freshening up, we had to dig deep with some food – but we really have no idea what to call a meal when you have it at 3am in the morning! Dreakfast? Dinnfast?
We caught up on our ‘beauty sleep’, when woken up, we were in a mood to spend our 1st day in Egypt by settling down in our amazing host and hotel. We spent time relaxing by the beautiful blue pools overlooking the peaks of the majestic Pyramids. We explored at our own leisure the elegant lobby, restaurants and the boulevard inside the wonderful Le Meridien Pyramids Hotel. The relaxed atmosphere and the feeling finally sunk in that we have finally arrived at the land from where it all began!
So, on day one, for a more relaxed lounging look, I opted for this casual, relaxed and covered look in a long cape cardigan. If you have read my Packing Picks for Egypt post, you know already that I packed a capsule wardrobe which was all about modest dressing.
For the past decades cardigans were basically waist length, somewhat fitted sweaters. Today they’re that and so much more.
Long cape cardigans are perfect for that bohemian look, especially the ones in thin fabrics, lace, mesh… that look like floor-length trenches. They probably are the best layering gimmick and style statement right now and I couldn’t resist trying on one.
To me, long cardigans look best with fitted bottom, so I paired it with a fitted pair of leather trousers and a v-neck tank top with lace details around the collar line.
A printed scarf with coloured pompom details is added to give this look the needed boost, plus it was a necessity for Egypt’s slightly chilly day time weather in December.
With a pair of heeled stilettos, this long cape cardigan instantly looked uber sleek and chic.
It’s all about the details and clashing styles. So, I resorted to a mini city bag, top knot bun and nude lips for this look. Minimal jewellery- with a gold plated chain bracelet, a couple rings and a ear bar ball kept the look simple yet with a fun cool attitude. Finally, a pair of cat eye sunglasses completed this laid back look.
